The UEA Men’s Hockey team strive for success and believe a closely knit squad both on and off the pitch is the most effective way to facilitate this. The team is one of the most sociable societies on campus with socials every Saturday, including many with the ladies club. Many of the team are always out on Wednesdays after our BUCs fixtures as well as a few mid-week socials throughout the year being planned. Alongside this you will always be able to find the many friendly faces of hockey around campus, more specifically in the bar or behind the bar.
Fresher’s Weeks – We will have a stall at the Freshers Sports Fair. so don’t be afraid to come meet a few of our friendly faces. Our give it a go session will be on Wednesday the 26th of September and our taster session on Thursday 27th September at the UEA Sportspark with first league matches for freshers on that Saturday (30th September).
After the freshers week fun has been had and mistakes have been made the 2nd week of the semester is where our social calendar kicks in with numerous big club socials with the ladies club to welcome you in. But don’t worry if clubbing isn’t your thing, we offer a variety of sober socials throughout the year including but not limited to 5-a-side football, laser tag, FIFA tournaments and BBQ’s.
Mike Covell Memorial Weekend – The weekend of the 18th November is our Old Boy’s weekend where many of the older face from UEAMHC’s past make a return to see how the club has developed, culminating in a somewhat friendly Past vs Present match on the Sunday. It is named in remembrance of Mike Covell an old boy who contracted meningitis and sadly pasted away during his time at UEA. The main aim of the weekend is to raise as much money as possible for The Meningitis Trust.
Formal Events – At Christmas we host a dinner designed to reflect upon the beginning of the season and a nice excuse to dress up in gentlemanly attire. Come April/May, once our season is finished, we then put together our second formal event with our annual dinner. Where awards are given out, we celebrate the successful season we’ve had, thank everyone for their efforts and say bye to any members who are graduating and we are unfortunately losing.
